Mary “Grace” Goodnow, 103, Goes to Heavenly Home

In Loving Memory of our Beloved Christian Sister, Mary “Grace” Goodnow

It is with deep sadness and joyful hope that we announce the passing of our beloved church member, Mary Grace Goodnow, at the age of 103. She was a pillar of strength, wisdom, and faith in our community, and a cherished Christian friend at West Side Baptist Church in Topeka.

Grace departed this life on Sunday morning, November 26, 2023.

“Mom passed into the arms of Jesus very peacefully early this morning. Thank you all for your prayers. She can now see with new eyes and rejoice together with loved ones who have gone before in the presence of the Loving God who gave her life and gently called her Home.”

Jim Goodnow, Son

Grace touched the lives of all who were fortunate enough to know her as a mother, a grandmother, a Sunday school teacher, a neighbor, and a friend.  As we mourn the loss of this extraordinary soul, let us remember and celebrate a life well-lived, marked by devotion to God, love for others, and an enduring spirit.

Eternal rest grant unto your saints,
O Lord, and let perpetual light
shine upon them. May the souls
of all the faithful departed, through
the mercy of God, rest in peace and rise in glory.

Grace was a faithful member of West Side Baptist Church and spent countless hours in service to the church and the community. She served in whatever capacity the church needed – teaching Sunday school classes, rocking infants in the nursery, serving countless meals for church functions, and singing in the choir. She helped make many baby quilts that were donated to Doorstep. Grace will be remembered for her witty humor, creativity, kindness, gentleness, and love.
